Part of DC's First Wave line, this 2010 issue plunges Will Eisner's masked crimefighter into a bleak winter scene — the Spirit crouches amid snow-covered rubble and fallen bodies while a gruff, pipe-smoking figure looms behind him, and a ghostly skull dominates the frozen cityscape in the background. José Ladrönn's cover work gives the whole image a moody, painterly atmosphere that feels genuinely cinematic. With David Hine writing and Moritat on interior art, plus a Spirit: Black & White backup feature by Marv Wolfman and Phil Winslade, this issue offers a generous helping of noir tension for fans of the character.
