Carlos Pacheco Perujo was born on 14 November 1961 in Spain and died on 9 November 2022. He stands among the most accomplished Spanish pencillers to have worked in mainstream American comics, and one of the first from his country to achieve genuine prominence at both Marvel and DC.

Pacheco entered the industry through cover work for Planeta De Agostini, which led to assignments with Marvel UK, where his contributions to the Spider-Man magazine *Dark Guard* built his early reputation. That visibility opened doors to the American market, and he went on to produce acclaimed work on titles including *Avengers Forever*, *Fantastic Four*, *Captain America*, *X-Men: Legacy*, *Green Lantern*, and *JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice*. He also contributed to major crossover events — DC's "Final Crisis" in 2009 and Marvel's "Age of Ultron" in 2013.

Beyond work-for-hire, Pacheco collaborated with writer Kurt Busiek — his partner on *Avengers Forever* — to create *Arrowsmith*, a 2003 WildStorm fantasy series that transplants World War I into a world of magic and dragons. The series earned an Eisner Award nomination for Best Limited Series. Near the end of his life, Pacheco and Busiek returned to that world with *Arrowsmith: Behind Enemy Lines* in 2022, one of his final published projects. His catalog spans more than 420 credited issues across a career stretching from 1983 to 2023.
