“Angel”

In "Angel," Superman reflects on a pivotal moment when Barbara Johnson, saved from a drunk driver, believed he was an angel sent to protect her. Her faith in him grows as she takes bold stands against the local gang, even when he’s unable to reach her in time. Written by Kurt Busiek and Fabian Nicieza, with art by Carlos Pacheco and Peter Vale, and a cover by Al Barrionuevo, this 2007 issue explores the quiet, lasting impact of hope—and the weight of belief in a hero who wonders if he’s truly making the world better.

Superman reviews when he saved Barbara Johnson from a drunk driver. She calls on the Lord to save her and Superman does. She thinks he's an angel. She has other experiences where Superman saves the day. She boldly confronts the local gang, goading the leader into shooting at her. She expects Superman, but he is busy saving someone else. He visits Barbara in a hospital. She says her shooting outraged the neighborhood and people are now cleaning out the gang. Back in the present, he thinks of the good she has done since then and doubts Arion's message that he is influencing mankind in a bad way.
