Arrowsmith #2
The "New York Number" of Kurt Busiek and Carlos Pacheco's alternate-history fantasy series brings a wonderfully eclectic crowd to the shadow of the Statue of Liberty — a glowing, emerald-green Lady Liberty looms over a diverse assembly of humans and fantastical creatures, including a horned figure, a troll-like elder, and a scarred, broad-shouldered being, all gazing upward toward a winged figure in the distant sky. Carlos Pacheco's pencils, inked by Jesús Merino and colored by Alex Sinclair, give the scene a rich, painterly atmosphere that makes this magical World War I-era New York feel genuinely alive. If you've been curious about a world where sorcery and soldiers share the same battlefield, this second chapter looks like a fine place to jump in.
