Leinil Francis Yu

Born in 1977 in the Philippines, Leinil Francis Yu has built one of the most recognizable careers in mainstream American comics over the past three decades. He entered the industry through Wildstorm Productions, which served as his gateway into the American market, and he has remained a prolific presence ever since, with credits spanning more than 425 issues between 1996 and 2026.

Yu is perhaps best known for his tenure on high-profile Marvel titles, including Wolverine, X-Men, New Avengers, and Avengers, as well as his celebrated work on Superman: Birthright for DC Comics — a retelling of Superman's origin story that demonstrated his ability to bring genuine weight and dynamism to superhero fundamentals. His art is distinguished by dense, expressive linework and a knack for staging action with kinetic clarity. He has also lent his draftsmanship to Star Wars comics, extending his reach beyond the traditional superhero genre.

Throughout his career Yu has worked in multiple capacities — as penciler, inker, and colorist — giving him an unusually comprehensive command of the visual storytelling process.
