The issue was written by Alan Davis (plot) and Fabian Nicieza (script), with pencils by Leinil Francis Yu and inks by John Livesay, Tim Townsend, and Edgar Tadeo — a production arrangement reflecting the late-1990s Marvel practice of splitting plotting and scripting duties across collaborators. Davis had just taken over as the book's plotter, and 'Magneto War' was the very first story arc of his run, kicking off a tightly coordinated crossover between Uncanny X-Men and the companion X-Men vol. 2 title under editor Mark Powers and editor-in-chief Bob Harras. The cover was provided by Brandon Peterson, who was not the interior penciler — a common separation of duties on high-profile X-titles of the era.
