Spider-Woman #6
Spider-Woman (2023) #6 marks a genuine structural turning point in Steve Foxe's run on the series: it pivots the book away from the New York Gang War setting and launches Jessica Drew toward San Francisco, opening what Marvel would collect as the 'New Champions' arc. The issue plants the seeds for a new generation of young heroes — figures the series eventually develops into the Assembly and, later, the New Champions — giving the title a legacy-building dimension that stretches beyond Jessica's own story. It also delivers the first in-series confrontation between Jessica Drew and Star (Ripley Ryan), transplanting a character born as a Captain Marvel antagonist into a new corner of the Marvel Universe and expanding Star's footprint as a recurring anti-villain with Infinity Stone ties. The series that produced this issue — the seventh Spider-Woman volume overall and the fifth to star Jessica Drew — was launched in late 2023 by writer Steve Foxe and artist Ig Guara, following directly from Jessica's erasure from the Great Web during the End of the Spider-Verse event and her subsequent involvement in Marvel's Gang War crossover. Issue #6 opened the second major story arc, with editor Ellie Pyle shepherding the title under editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski. Foxe, an Eisner and Ringo Award-nominated writer who had earlier co-created Web-Weaver with Kris Anka, used this issue's cross-country premise to deliberately reset the series' geography and expand its supporting cast with new characters designed to carry forward into a Champions-adjacent storyline.
