The book was conceived as both a post-'End of the Spider-Verse' solo relaunch and a tie-in to the 'Gang War' event then unfolding in Amazing Spider-Man, with Foxe noting that the two storylines were designed to be self-contained enough that new readers did not need to track the larger crossover.
