Avengers Assemble (Vol. 3) #1 marks the first team appearance of the AVENG.E.R.S. — the Avengers Emergency Response Squad — a structurally novel Avengers concept that deliberately breaks from the flagship team's model by stationing heroes at the classic Avengers Mansion on a rapid-deployment, rotating-mission basis. The issue also serves as the first time Night-Thrasher and Lightspeed (Julie Power) formally join a core Avengers squad, elevating two long-tenured but underutilized Marvel characters to the main-event stage. Critically, the book announced a conscious pivot back to done-in-one, character-driven Avengers storytelling in the tradition of the Roger Stern and Kurt Busiek eras, at a moment when the main Avengers title was running a more cosmic, sprawling story — making issue #1 the launchpad for that counter-programming aesthetic. As the third volume to bear the Avengers Assemble title, it also re-stakes the brand's meaning: less a movie-tie-in banner (as the 2012 series was) and more an homage to the team's grass-roots, Mansion-era history.

Writer Steve Orlando — who publicly credits West Coast Avengers as literally the first comic book he ever bought — pitched this series as a companion piece to Jed MacKay's concurrent Avengers run, spinning directly out of the Blood Hunt crossover event in which the main Avengers were scattered by Varnae's vampire army and Captain America was forced to improvise a makeshift squad. Marvel announced the book in June 2024, with issue #1 shipping September 11, 2024 (cover-dated November 2024); the series was structured as a five-issue limited run with a rotating art team — Cory Smith on issue #1, followed by Scot Eaton, Marcelo Ferreira, and Valentina Pinti across subsequent issues — each artist handling one self-contained story. Editor Alanna Smith oversaw the project, with Sonia Oback on colors and VC's Cory Petit on letters for the debut issue, and the main cover provided by Leinil Francis Yu.
