New Avengers #36
This 2008 installment of "The Trust" arc puts Wolverine front and center in a deeply unsettling way — his claws are fully extended on both hands, framing a wide-eyed woman whose expression mingles shock and dread as she finds herself caught between those gleaming adamantium blades. Leinil Francis Yu's cover work is tense and intimate, pulling the viewer right into a moment charged with menace and uncertainty. A compelling visual promise from Brian Michael Bendis and Yu's acclaimed New Avengers run.

With the rest of his team taken over by aliens, Luke Cage helps the Mighty Avengers battle a city full of alien symbiotes, all thanks to Dr. Doom dropping a "venom bomb" on New York. After the symbiotes are destroyed, Wolverine sneaks into Avengers Tower and interrupts Spider-Woman's shower as he confronts her about taking the Skrull Elektra's body and turning it over to Tony Stark. The New Avengers track down The Hood and his pals, who are counting their loot from the recent Deathlok fueled bank robbery, and prepare to attack with, thanks to Dr. Strange, an army of superheroes.
