Ian Flynn (born May 31, 1982) is an American-Canadian comic book writer best recognized for his long, defining run on Archie Comics' *Sonic the Hedgehog* series. He entered the title with issue #160, stepping into the chief writer role following Ken Penders' departure, and guided the book through to its cancellation at issue #290 — a tenure spanning well over a hundred issues and reflected in credits across companion titles including *Sonic Universe* and *Sonic Boom*.
Beyond the blue hedgehog, Flynn built a varied résumé at Archie, contributing to *Mega Man*, *New Crusaders*, and the 2015 relaunch of the flagship *Archie* series. His work tends toward tight continuity management and a facility for juggling large ensemble casts, skills that served him well across franchise-driven material.
When IDW Publishing launched its own *Sonic the Hedgehog* comic in April 2018, Flynn came aboard as lead writer, extending his connection to the property into a second publishing era. He has since added *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* to his IDW credits. His influence on the franchise reached beyond comics beginning with *Sonic Frontiers*, after which he contributed writing to multiple mainline entries in the video game series itself. Across two decades of active work — running from 2006 through at least 2026 in catalog records — Flynn has accumulated credits on more than 325 issues.
