This issue features fiction by Talbot Mundy, George E. Holt, W. C. Tuttle, Clyde B. Hough, Hugh Pendexter, and others. The visible story fragment, titled "And Now Their Cashier Carries a Colt," concerns payroll robbery: cashier John Morse loses Keith & Company's twenty-five-hundred-dollar payroll to thieves en route from the bank. After Morse's failure to prevent the theft, Mr. Keith directs him to purchase a revolver for future protection while carrying the payroll. The piece functions primarily as an advertisement for Colt revolvers. A secondary motivational narrative, "The Warning of the Desert," follows Bill Andrews, an underpaid working man inspired by a cautionary phrase ("On the Plains of Hesitation bleach the bones...") to pursue correspondence study through International Schools, ultimately earning a salary increase and promotion. The issue also contains numerous advertisements for various mail-order enterprises, including Hawaiian guitar instruction, jewelry, hair restoration, and vocational training.
Each page has its own page — the cartoon, who’s in it, and what the satire means.
