Val Semeiks
Valdis "Val" Semeiks, born February 5, 1955, is an American comic book artist who built his reputation across more than three decades of work primarily at DC Comics and Marvel Comics. His catalog spans over 200 credited issues between 1986 and 2021, reflecting a remarkably durable career in an industry where longevity is hard-won.
Semeiks developed a distinctive visual sensibility well suited to muscular, action-driven storytelling, which made him a natural fit for titles demanding physical energy and raw dynamism. His most prominent body of work includes extended runs on Conan the Barbarian, where his draftsmanship captured the sword-and-sorcery atmosphere the character demands, as well as significant contributions to Lobo and The Demon at DC. He also brought that same kinetic quality to Marvel work on Wolverine and to the prestigious anthology series Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight.
Working across both major publishers gave Semeiks unusual range, moving between street-level superhero narratives and high-fantasy adventure with apparent ease. His Spanish-language Conan el Bárbaro credits further indicate the international reach his artwork achieved during his most active period. While Semeiks does not appear to have collected major industry awards, his consistent presence across marquee titles at both DC and Marvel speaks to the professional regard his peers and editors held for his reliable, energetic work.
