“Lex Luthor: Dark Victory, Chapter Four: The Triumph of Tragedy”

The concluding chapter of this 1999 DC miniseries delivers a cover that says it all: Superman pursues a tumbling, wide-eyed Lex Luthor in freefall high above a gleaming cityscape, with the taunt "Your stock's not the only thing that's taking a big fall, Lex!" making the corporate power theme delightfully literal. Cover artists Val Semeiks and Dennis Janke frame the plummeting arch-nemesis against a dizzying aerial backdrop that perfectly captures the series' blend of boardroom intrigue and superhero confrontation. It's a satisfying visual punctuation mark on the "Superman's Nemesis" saga, and Michelinie, Semeiks, and Janke clearly saved some of their best work for the finale.
