Joe Quesada

Joe Quesada is an American comic book artist, writer, editor, and television producer, born on January 12, 1962. He built his early reputation during the 1990s drawing for Valiant Comics on titles such as Ninjak and Solar, Man of the Atom, before moving to work for both DC Comics — most notably on Batman: Sword of Azrael — and Marvel, where he contributed to X-Factor. He subsequently founded Event Comics, through which he published Ash, a creator-owned series that demonstrated his ambitions beyond work-for-hire.

His trajectory shifted significantly in 1998 when Marvel brought him on as an editor for the relaunched Marvel Knights imprint, a line that revitalized street-level characters including Daredevil. Two years later he became Marvel's editor-in-chief, a role he held for over a decade and during which he oversaw some of the publisher's most commercially and critically discussed story initiatives. His own artistic work across this period included Daredevil: Father and NYX. In 2010 Marvel named him chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment, and he transitioned out of the editor-in-chief seat in January 2011, with Axel Alonso succeeding him. His title was restructured to executive vice president and creative director in 2019, and he departed the company entirely in 2022 after more than two decades shaping its editorial and creative direction.
