Issue nine of this dystopian cosmic series delivers a cover that practically crackles with tension: an aged, gray-bearded Peter Quill — encased in a massive red-and-gold armored suit — squares off face-to-face against a purple-skinned, caped adversary who looks every bit as dangerous. The sheer scale of the confrontation, with sparks flying and that glowing arc-reactor-style chest piece humming, makes it clear the stakes have been cranked up considerably by this point in the 2019 series. With Sacks, Gill, and Rosenberg steering this future-Marvel tale, it's a compelling chapter in one of the more inventive "what if Peter Quill grew old?" stories the publisher has told.
