The 'One More Day' arc was conceived as an editorial mandate by Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada, who believed Spider-Man's marriage aged the character and limited storytelling options for younger audiences; J. Michael Straczynski, who was concluding a seven-year run on the title, publicly acknowledged deep disagreement with Quesada's methodology — he came close to removing his name from the final two issues before being persuaded to stay. Quesada himself penciled the entire arc, a dual role that caused repeated scheduling slippage: the four issues were originally planned for a weekly August 2007 ship date but the concluding chapter, #545, was repeatedly rescheduled, ultimately landing on December 27, 2007 (with a January 2008 cover date). Straczynski's original script had envisioned a broader deal that would have retconned additional storylines, but Quesada revised it down to focus solely on undoing the marriage.
