The Ray #3
The third chapter of DC's six-issue miniseries finds the Ray surging forward "in a blaze of power" against a rain-soaked city skyline, his striking black-and-gold military-style costume making him an arresting presence as a golden, glowing figure tumbles helplessly in the background. Joe Quesada's cover pencils (inked by Randy DuBurke) give the scene real kinetic energy — that small costume design inset in the corner is a nice touch, hinting at the care put into crafting this hero's visual identity. With Jack C. Harris writing and Quesada also handling interior art, "Ray vs. the Volcano" looks like a genuinely compelling installment in this 1992 series.
