Jim Cheung

Born in 1972, Jim Cheung (pronounced "Chung") is a British comic book artist whose three decades of work have made him one of Marvel Comics' most recognizable visual storytellers. His catalog spans roughly 260 issues between 1995 and 2025, covering both penciling and inking duties across a wide range of titles.

Cheung built an early reputation on CrossGen's fantasy series Scion before finding his most celebrated work at Marvel. His most significant contribution to comics history is co-creating the Young Avengers, a team that introduced several characters who have since become cornerstones of the Marvel universe: Kate Bishop, Hulkling, Wiccan, Iron Lad, Patriot (Eli Bradley), and Speed. The team's blend of youthful energy and genuine emotional complexity resonated with readers and has proven remarkably durable across comics, animation, and other media.

Beyond Young Avengers, Cheung contributed strong work to New Avengers: Illuminati and the sprawling Avengers: The Children's Crusade, a series that reunited him with the Young Avengers cast. His draftsmanship is marked by clean, expressive figure work and a gift for conveying both action and quieter character moments with equal confidence. Titles including Maverick and Secret Warriors further demonstrate the range he maintained throughout his career. His co-created characters remain among the more enduring additions to Marvel's roster from the 2000s onward.
