“Pressure Points”

Maverick finds himself in a punishing spot in this January 1998 Marvel issue — quite literally crushed between the massive, fleshy folds of the Blob, who looms over the entire cover as an almost overwhelming physical presence. Maverick, clad in his yellow-and-black suit, strains against the giant mutant's grip in a struggle that looks every bit as uneven as the cover copy promises: "Alone Against a Massive Mound of Mutant Madness." Jim Cheung's pencils and Andrew Pepoy's inks give the confrontation a visceral, larger-than-life energy that makes "Pressure Points" feel like an apt title for what's in store.
