Avengers: The Initiative - The Complete Collection #1
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis first volume of the complete collection of Jonathan Hickman's Avengers run collects the opening chapters of his epic saga, including Avengers (2012) #1-5, New Avengers (2013) #1-3, and material from Free Comic Book Day 2012 (Avengers). Hickman's story begins with the formation of a new, expanded Avengers roster as the team faces threats on a cosmic scale, while the Illuminati secretly confronts the collapse of the multiverse. This collection sets the stage for the grand, interconnected narrative that would define Hickman's tenure on the franchise.
"Happy Accidents" kicks off Avengers: The Initiative – The Complete Collection #1 with a sharp mix of tension and misdirection, as Hardball’s prank with a sabotaged nanotech dart sets off a chain of chaotic events. Dan Slott and Stefano Caselli deliver a fast-paced, character-driven story where Vance and Cloud 9’s somber mission takes an unexpected turn, and Iron Man’s Hulkbuster plan unravels in classic comic fashion. Jim Cheung and John Dell’s cover captures the moment just before the fallout, perfectly framing the high-stakes chaos to come.

Hardball steals a dart of the power blocking nanotech for the mysterious stranger and replaces it with a dud. Vance and Cloud 9 travel to Kentucky to offer their condolences about M.V.P.'s death to his family, but M.V.P. himself answers the door. The Hulk and his allies arrive on earth and start busting stuff. Iron Man arms his new Hulkbuster armor with a nanotech dart to steal the Hulk's powers, but when he tries to implement his plan, you guessed it, he uses the dud planted by Hardball. The Initiative members are assigned to crowd and damage control but decide to confront the Hulk directly.
