Dave Gibbons

David Chester Gibbons, born 14 April 1949 in England, has built one of the most respected careers in comics as an artist, writer, and letterer across more than five decades of work. He came up through British comics, joining 2000 AD from its very first issue in 1977 and contributing extensively to that anthology throughout its early years — a formative stretch that established his reputation for disciplined, expressive draftsmanship.

His catalog is remarkably broad, taking in long runs on titles such as Doctor Who Weekly, Doctor Who: A Marvel Monthly, and Green Lantern, reflecting a versatility that carried him fluidly between British and American publishers. It was his partnership with writer Alan Moore, however, that proved most consequential.
