The six-issue Rann-Thanagar War concludes here with a cover — penciled by Ivan Reis and inked by Marc Campos — that says everything about the cost of galactic conflict: Hawkman kneels over a fallen figure amid a battlefield strewn with casualties, while Hawkgirl, a Green Lantern, and what appears to be a robotic figure stand behind him, with Adam Strange looking on from the left. The tagline "Casualties of War!" drives the somber mood home, capturing the weight that writer Dave Gibbons has built across the series. It's a fittingly epic and emotionally charged send-off to one of 2005's most ambitious DC cosmic storylines.
