Green Lantern #181
Hal Jordan strides forward in full defiance on Dave Gibbons' striking cover, declaring "I'm tired of being your whipping boy!!" and "I QUIT!!" to a tribunal of stern-faced Guardians of the Universe seated in the background. The tension practically leaps off the page — a Green Lantern turning his back on the very organization that empowers him is a premise hard to look away from. Len Wein and Gibbons were clearly in fine form together on this October 1984 issue, and the story title "Take This Job-- and Shove It!" tells you everything you need to know about the mood inside.
