“Over the Edge”

Superman streaks low over a massive aircraft carrier in full action pose — one fist cocked, the other shading his eyes as he scans the deck — with military jets positioned just beneath him in a composition that crackles with urgency. The cover by Jerry Ordway and Dave Gibbons captures the Man of Steel at his most purposeful, suggesting high-stakes tension between superhero and military hardware. "Over the Edge" from December 1988 is a fine example of the post-Crisis Superman era at its confident, kinetic best.
