Strażnicy #2

The Polish edition of Strażnicy ("Watchmen") continues with Tom II, featuring a cover by Dave Gibbons that places a colossal, muscular figure — rendered in burnished golden tones and standing atop a civic pedestal — before a backdrop of newspaper headlines and onlooking crowds. The inscription "Z Wyrazami Wdzięczności" ("With Gratitude") on the base gives the image a quietly unsettling ceremonial weight, as if heroism itself has been put on permanent, public display. Written by Alan Moore and translated by Jacek Drewnowski, with art by Dave Gibbons and colors by John Higgins, this 2003 Egmont Polska volume is a handsome way to experience one of comics' most thoughtfully constructed narratives in the Polish language.
