Dan Mishkin
Dan Mishkin was born on March 3, 1953, and has built a substantial career as a comic book writer, primarily at DC Comics, where his work spans from 1981 through at least 2025. He is perhaps best recognized as the co-creator, alongside Gary Cohn, of two enduring DC properties: Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld and Blue Devil.
Mishkin's writing credits extend across more than 200 issues, reflecting a versatility that took him through some of DC's more inventive titles of the 1980s and beyond. His run on Wonder Woman placed him within one of the publisher's flagship series, while his contributions to House of Mystery showed a comfort with anthology and horror-inflected storytelling. He also brought his craft to licensed properties, lending his voice to both the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Comic Book and the DragonLance Comic Book — adaptations that demanded an understanding of expansive fantasy world-building.
The characters he and Cohn developed together remain his most prominent legacy. Amethyst introduced a young protagonist navigating a richly imagined gem-based fantasy realm, while Blue Devil blended superhero action with a lighter, self-aware sensibility. Both series found dedicated audiences and have continued to surface in DC's publishing line across the decades, a testament to the durability of their original conception.
