Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld #4

The fourth chapter of DC's twelve-part maxi-series finds Amethyst — golden-haired and clad in her purple costume — facing down a menacing blue-skinned villain in a sweeping red cape, while a winged demon creature looms overhead and a coiled serpent and small green creature crowd the foreground. The ornate jewel-encrusted border framing the scene gives Gemworld exactly the sense of richly layered fantasy it deserves. Cover art by Ernie Colón and George Pérez makes this 1983 issue a visually striking installment in one of DC's most imaginative series of the era.
