“Worlds to Conquer!”

Ernie Colón's cover for this November 1983 team-up says it all: Superman and Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld are clearly in over their heads as the towering, menacing Dark Opal looms over them, his massive clawed hands reaching in from both sides while the two heroes recoil in alarm amid a burst of magical energy. Titled "Worlds to Conquer!", this entry in DC's beloved team-up series brings together the Man of Steel and one of DC's most distinctive fantasy heroines for what promises to be a collision of sci-fi muscle and Gemworld magic. With Dan Mishkin and Gary Cohn scripting alongside art from Alex Saviuk and Keith Giffen, it's a genuinely fun crossover that captures the imaginative breadth DC was exploring in 1983.
