“The Uninvited”

Issue seven of DC's twelve-part maxi-series brings "The Uninvited," and the cover by George Pérez and Ernie Colón packs the scene with unmistakable tension: Amethyst flies urgently above what appears to be a grand gathering, while a grinning, blue-striped villain looms large in the shadows behind a crowd of colorfully costumed Gemworld figures. A gleaming sword cuts diagonally across the composition, connecting a young blond man and a dark-haired woman in blue to the chaos unfolding above them, with a skeletal creature lurking ominously in the mix. Dan Mishkin, Gary Cohn, and Ernie Colón are clearly in full command of Gemworld's rich tapestry of magic and menace at the series' midpoint.
