This Spanish-language serial novel, Chapter One titled "A Letter and a Decision," continues an adventure narrative involving Jim "Texas" and his fiancée Stella at their ranch. Jim returns from a dangerous expedition to Elko with troubling news: Vera, Stella's cousin, has mysteriously disappeared from the train during their journey home. Stella theorizes that Vera, heartbroken over her unrequited love for Jim, fled deliberately to avoid witnessing his marriage. Additionally, Stella reveals that Vera's father, Spack, escaped during a violent storm when a fire destroyed his prison pavilion—likely aided by a bribed Mexican worker. The couple receives a letter from Daphne Rutherford, abandoned by the villain Zenker and now working in Carson City saloons with their illegitimate child. Daphne threatens to expose Zenker's misconduct unless he provides for their son. Jim and Stella decide to visit Daphne to help her, accompanied by their Mexican companion Nino. Chapter Two, "Zenker Does Not Lose Time," reveals that Zenker, having survived, boarded the same train and secretly observed Jim and his companions.
