Mike Kaluta, born Michael William Kaluta on August 25, 1947, is an American comic book artist and writer whose elegant, atmospheric work defined a generation of pulp-inspired comics. He is best known for his celebrated 1970s adaptation of *The Shadow*, written by Dennis O'Neil, which brought a lush, Art Deco sensibility to the classic pulp hero. Kaluta's path into comics began in the late 1960s, and his signature style—marked by intricate linework, moody chiaroscuro, and a love for ornate detail—quickly set him apart. He collaborated most notably with O'Neil and later with writer Elaine Lee on the space-fantasy series *Starstruck*, a project that showcased his versatility as both artist and writer. Over a career spanning from 1967 to 2018, Kaluta contributed to over 60 issues, including work on *Forbidden Tales of Dark Mansion* and various *Shadow* reprints.
