The Spectre's green-gloved hands reach out desperately from beneath a suffocating mass of red-eyed black ravens on Mike Kaluta's deeply unsettling cover to issue #44 — the sheer number of birds pressing down on DC's Spirit of Vengeance makes for one of the most viscerally striking images of the series' 1996 run. John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake's "Righteous Anger" promises the brooding supernatural intensity this creative team consistently delivers, and Kaluta's painterly rendering of those corvid hordes gives the whole scene an almost mythic weight.
