Lucifer #55
Mike Kaluta's intricate cover for this December 2004 Vertigo issue presents a haunting composition: a vast, pale otherworldly face dominates the background, its long fingers holding what appears to be a dark, flame-filled mirror or portal, while far below, a solitary small figure stands at the center of a circular arena ringed by countless watching faces. The contrast between that immense, eerily serene presence above and the lone figure below gives the image a genuinely unsettling sense of scale and quiet dread. Writer Mike Carey and artist Marc Hempel continue their acclaimed run with "The Eighth Sin," and this cover alone makes a compelling case for picking it up.
