Starstruck #1
IDW's 2009 relaunch of Starstruck arrives with a cover by Michael Wm. Kaluta that's equal parts glamour and galaxy-spanning strangeness — two striking female figures dominate an opulent, fur-draped setting surrounded by heart motifs and shadowy onlookers, while a separate vignette at the bottom introduces a scrappy group of youngsters identified as the Galactic Girl Guides. The composition balances adult sophistication with a wry, pulpy sensibility that feels entirely its own. Writer Elaine Lee and the rest of the creative team promise a universe where high style and science fiction collide, and this first issue — featuring the story "Silver Bells and Cockle Shells" — is a wonderful entry point.
