Doug Hazlewood

Doug Hazlewood is an American comic book artist whose career has centered almost entirely on inking, making him one of DC Comics' most dependable finishing artists over a span of more than four decades. Born on September 20, 1954, he broke into the industry around 1978 and remained active through at least 2022, accumulating credits on more than 250 issues across a wide range of DC titles.

Hazlewood built his reputation through consistent, polished work on titles including *Superboy*, *Adventures of Superman*, *Animal Man*, *The Flash*, *Birds of Prey*, and *Doom Patrol*. He developed particularly strong working relationships with pencilers Tom Grummett and Nicola Scott, whose linework he inked across multiple assignments. Within the Superman corner of the DC universe, he carved out a distinctive role as the go-to inker for high-profile story events, contributing to two of the most talked-about Superman publications of the 1990s: *The Death of Superman* (1993) and *Superman: The Wedding Album* (1996).

Though inkers frequently labor in relative obscurity compared to pencilers or writers, Hazlewood's long tenure at DC and his repeated presence on marquee projects speak to the trust editors placed in his craft. His work on landmark Superman storylines in particular gives him a lasting place in the history of that character's most widely read chapters.
