Superboy #17 (July 1995) puts the Kid of Steel front and center in a genuinely charged image — leather jacket open, S-shield blazing, as he strains against and shatters a heavy chain with his bare hands, radiating raw confidence against a burst of golden light. Tom Grummett's cover pencils and Karl Kesel's inks give the scene a muscular energy that suits a teen hero still figuring out exactly how powerful he really is. With Kesel and Grummett collaborating on the interior as well, "Neon!" looks like a strong chapter in one of DC's most energetic mid-'90s titles.
