“Bitter Memory”

The cover of this June 2005 issue sets an unsettling tone perfectly suited to the "Haunted Origins!" banner — a red-bearded man screams with arms outstretched, framed against an enormous, looming masked face that dominates the background. Surrounding him are the Doom Patrol members in various states of distress: a young woman recoiling from a crackling blue skeletal apparition, a pale figure with an exposed musculature in orange and purple, and an armored robot-like character to the right. John Byrne and Doug Hazlewood's cover art ties it all together with a sense of raw, haunted urgency that makes the interior story "Bitter Memory" feel like one you genuinely don't want to miss.
