Doom Patrol #16
"Convergence, Part 1" marks a pivotal moment in the Doom Patrol series, as the team confronts a sudden and unsettling fracture in their unity. After Nudge is overwhelmed by Vortex’s true form, the fractured minds of the other five children exposed to the corrupted Boost serum surge forward, turning on their teammates. Amid the chaos, three mysterious beings resembling Vortex arrive at the headquarters, seeking Negative Man—separated from Larry Trainor by Nudge’s actions. Written and illustrated by John Byrne, with inks by Doug Hazlewood, colors by Alex Bleyaert, and letters by Jared K. Fletcher, this 2005 issue delivers a tense, character-driven escalation, with Byrne’s distinctive art and storytelling anchoring the story’s emotional and psychological stakes. The cover, also by Byrne, captures the moment of arrival with striking clarity.
