Bernard Chang, born in 1972, is a Canadian-American artist and designer whose career in comics and entertainment design spans more than three decades. He broke into the industry in the early 1990s and has since built a substantial body of work across both mainstream superhero titles and more offbeat corners of the medium.
X-Men #58 (1996)
Chang is perhaps best recognized for his lengthy association with DC Comics, where he has served in multiple capacities — penciller, inker, colorist, letterer, and writer — across roughly 200 issues. His most prominently credited titles include Batman Beyond, Green Lantern Corps, Teen Titans, and Demon Knights, demonstrating a range that encompasses futuristic science fiction, cosmic adventure, ensemble action, and medieval fantasy. He also contributed meaningfully to The Second Life of Doctor Mirage for Valiant Entertainment, a title that stood apart for its quieter, more emotionally nuanced tone.
Daredevil / Deadpool '97 #1 (1997)
One of his more distinctive recent contributions is Monkey Prince, a DC series drawing on Chinese mythology and culture, which reflects a broader industry push toward diverse storytelling perspectives. Throughout his career Chang has worked comfortably across genres, bringing clean, dynamic linework and strong character expression to whatever material he takes on. His longevity — active from 1993 through at least 2025 — speaks to a consistent professionalism that has kept him in demand across publishers and projects.
