Nightwing #40

Part six of "The Untouchable" arc puts Dick Grayson in truly dire straits — the cover by Bernard Chang and colored by Marcelo Maiolo plunges Nightwing into churning underwater depths, his costumed figure pinned beneath the crushing grip of a heavyset, bespectacled man who can only be the Sea Butcher. The teal-washed palette and cascading bubbles give the whole image a breathless, sinking feeling that makes the tagline "At the Mercy of the Sea Butcher!" feel entirely earned. Sam Humphries and Chang are delivering one of 2018's more inventive Nightwing runs, and this issue looks like a genuinely tense chapter in it.
