Monkey Prince #5

Part five of DC's Monkey Prince limited series opens with a cover that's hard to look away from — a massive, toothy sea monster surges upward from the deep, its gaping jaws aimed squarely at a small inflatable raft where the Monkey Prince and a green reptilian companion are blissfully (or obliviously) relaxing. The split above-and-below-water composition is a loving nod to classic creature-feature imagery, rendered with gorgeous blue tones by Bernard Chang and Marcelo Maiolo. With "Big Stick Energy Part 1 of 4" kicking off a new arc, Gene Luen Yang's irreverent mythology-meets-superhero series looks every bit as fun and inventive in 2022 as it did from the start.
