Paul Reinman

Born Joseph Paul Reinmann in Germany on 2 September 1910, Paul Reinman built a career in American comics that spanned four decades and left a quiet but meaningful mark on the medium's most celebrated era. He broke into the industry around 1941 and demonstrated remarkable versatility, working as an artist, inker, colorist, and letterer across hundreds of issues.

Reinman is perhaps best remembered for his steady collaboration with Jack Kirby during the Silver Age, providing inks that helped define some of Marvel Comics' most consequential early titles. He worked on the debut issues of both The Incredible Hulk and The X-Men, placing him at the table during the creation of characters that would reshape popular culture. Beyond those landmark books, his output ranged widely across anthology and genre titles including All-American Comics, Uncanny Tales, Astounding Stories, Sinister Tales, Creepy Worlds, and Secrets of the Unknown — the kind of workhorse catalog that kept the industry running issue to issue.

His contributions were those of a reliable craftsman rather than a self-promoting auteur, which may explain why his name is better known to dedicated historians than to casual fans. Reinman died on 27 September 1988, having helped ink the foundations of characters still recognized worldwide today.
