Born Elizabeth Safian Berube on January 7, 1943, she spent nearly five decades contributing to American comics before her death on January 15, 2021. Though her name may not be immediately familiar to casual readers, her work was a steady presence across romance comics at DC during the 1970s, where she signed her art simply as "Elizabeth." Her stylized, contemporary approach made her a natural fit for decorative and editorial features — fashion spreads, horoscope pages, tables of contents — that gave DC's romance titles much of their visual personality.

Berube was also a prolific colorist, beginning that side of her career at Archie Comics before moving on to DC, where catalog records credit her as artist, colorist, and inker across 151 issues spanning 1973 to 2020. Among her most frequently credited titles are Wonder Woman, All-Star Comics, The Vigilante, Metal Men, Aquaman, and Toyboy — a range suggesting genuine versatility across genres and formats. Beyond periodical comics, she applied her skills to children's books and greeting cards throughout her career.

No single blockbuster title or major award defines Berube's legacy, but the breadth and consistency of her output across nearly fifty years speaks to a professional whose craft was trusted by publishers working in very different corners of the industry.
