Mike Grell's cover for this June 1977 issue pulls no punches: Superboy, a green-costumed Legionnaire, a red-haired hero, a golden-helmed figure, and a blonde woman in pink all recoil in alarm from a looming shadowed villain seated in the foreground, with the blunt challenge "Which one of these heroes will die?" hanging above them. The story title — "That a World Might Live… A Legionnaire Must Die!" — makes clear the stakes are as high as the 30th century gets. It's a genuinely gripping setup from Paul Levitz and artist James Sherman, the kind of dramatic promise that made Legion of Super-Heroes one of DC's most compelling team books of the era.
