Mr. Bones takes center stage on this May 1987 cover, his skeletal visage and red cape cutting a striking figure as he looms over a railing, one wrist still in handcuffs — the chain dangling defiantly — while a spotlight bathes him in dramatic yellow light and a shadowy figure lurks in the background. The cover's dueling speech bubbles ("Courts of law — or sticks and stones" versus "Nothing on earth stops Mr. Bones!") set up a compelling tension that pairs perfectly with the story title "Helix Takes the Stand." Cover art by Vince Argondezzi and Tony DeZuniga gives this issue from Roy Thomas and Dann Thomas's run a real sense of menace and theatrical flair.
