“The Bug Lady”

Here's a striking December 1977 package from DC's dollar-comic era — 80 pages of all-new stories featuring the extended Superman cast. The cover by José Luis García-López and Dick Giordano delivers an unsettling scene: a mind-controlled Superman, eyes blazing with some kind of beam, hurls a dark-haired woman (Lois Lane) toward a barbed-wire barrier while armed soldiers look on — a speech bubble demanding he "Kill Lois Lane!" making the stakes unmistakably clear. Framing the central drama are vignettes spotlighting Jimmy Olsen and Krypto on one side, and Supergirl, Nightwing, and Flamebird on the other, promising a genuinely full roster of Kryptonian-family adventures within.
