“Hunt for a Hero-Killer”

This July 1977 issue of Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes promises high-stakes adventure with its Mike Grell cover depicting Superboy and several Legionnaires — including a winged hero and a flame-powered figure — reeling from a burst of energy unleashed by an enormous, faceless purple-robed figure. The cover's dialogue makes it clear the team went hunting for vengeance and walked straight into a deadly trap instead, setting a genuinely tense tone for the story inside. Titled "Hunt for a Hero-Killer," this one looks like exactly the kind of urgent, action-packed Legion tale that made the series such a fan favorite in the late 1970s.
