“To Love and Die in L.A.”

Infinity, Inc. goes up against Helix in this July 1988 showdown, and the cover by Michael Bair makes the stakes immediately clear — a skull-faced villain in a sweeping red cape looms over the battlefield, his arms spread wide as a bound, bare-chested figure hangs captive in his grasp. Flanking them are two women in striking costumes (one in dark slit-gown with blade, one in white and green), while a snarling werewolf-like creature and a young blonde in colorful leggings round out the assembled Helix lineup at the bottom. It's a bold, atmospheric composition from the team of Thomas, Bair, and Downs that sets up what promises to be a fierce clash between two very different groups of super-powered individuals.
