Who is Bart Allen?

Born in the 30th century as the grandson of Barry Allen, Bart inherited a dangerous connection to the Speed Force that caused him to age at an accelerated rate. To save his life, he was raised in a virtual-reality simulator and later sent back in time to the present day, where Wally West helped stabilize his condition — launching his career as the young hero Impulse.

Few characters have grown up quite so publicly in the pages of DC Comics as Bart Allen, who made his Bronze Age debut in The New Teen Titans #19 in 1982, brought to life by the legendary team of Marv Wolfman, George Pérez, and Romeo Tanghal. Over more than four decades — from 1982 all the way into 2026 — he's become a fixture of the DC Universe, racking up 167 catalog appearances and six key issues that serious collectors know to hunt down. His home turf spans Flash, Teen Titans, and Impulse, placing him squarely in the fast-moving, high-energy corner of DC where he keeps extraordinary company: The Flash, Batman, Green Lantern, Kid Flash, and the hero who shares his own name, Impulse. Whether you're a longtime reader who watched him evolve across the eras or a newcomer drawn in by the sheer depth of his history, Bart Allen is one of those DC figures whose longevity speaks for itself.
